Uemi: Julia, I have been in Vancouver for a week and already I have sampled food from all around the world.

Julia: Yes, it is true what they say: The world really does come to Vancouver! The people here are so diverse and that is reflected in the food available at local restaurants.

Uemi: I believe that now! Last night I ate at an izakaya style restaurant just like home in Osaka. I met many people from all over Japan that have relocated here in B.C.

Julia: Where else have you eaten?

Uemi: My first night here I ate at a restaurant serving Ethiopian food. For lunch the next day I had Cuban food. And the next morning for breakfast I ate a traditional North American meal: Eggs, hash browns and toast!

Julia: You should try eating at one of the many East Indian food restaurants here. I have had some amazing samosas, curries, and my favourite, chicken vindaloo, right here in Vancouver.

Uemi: Wow! What other places are there worth trying?

Julia: There are unlimited choices if you are looking for Greek food, traditional Chinese cuisine, Korean, Ukrainian, Thai, French, Italian or Mexican food. I could go on forever! And they are all worth trying.

Julia: What about traditional Canadian food?

Mio: Some good places here serve Montreal cuisine, however, the food most representative of B.C. is the fresh fish and local produce. Canada does not really have traditional food like Japan. But what is a special part of B.C.’s cuisine are its fusion restaurants.

Julia: Fusion? What’s that?

Mio: It's a mix of two or more kinds of food. There are restaurants that fuse East Indian food with Thai, or Asian and Mediterranean, or Japanese with West Coast!

Julia: Maybe Vancouver can start a new tradition: Serving an abundance of the most diverse menus, all in one city!
