Homestay is a popular accommodation option for international students, allowing them to experience cultural exchange while living with a local family in Canada.

Canada Journal arranges homestays in various cities across Canada for those traveling for study or working holidays.

Homestay House Rules

Each homestay host has its own customs and house rules.

If you are unsure about anything, be sure to ask your host family. Uncommunicated questions may cause problems. It is important to communicate openly with your host family on your own to ensure a smooth stay with your host family.

Please follow the general rules below:

Tell them your destination and return time when going out.
If you fail to return by curfew and cannot be contacted further, there is a possibility of being mistaken for a kidnapping, and a search request may be filed with the police.

Tell them in advance if you don’t need a meal.
If you don’t need lunch or dinner because you’re dining out with friends, let your host family know in advance.

Clean up your used dishes.
After meals, clean up your used dishes. The cleaning methods vary by family, so ask your host family.

Keep your room tidy and clean.
Don’t leave dirty laundry or leftover food in your room. Make sure to keep your room tidy and clean, and leave it clean when leaving.

Respect privacy.
Don’t enter private areas such as bedrooms and storage spaces without permission. Be sure to get permission when using items outside your room.

Points to Note for Homestay Arrangement

Frequently Asked Questions about Homestay Arrangement

Q. What are the criteria for selecting host families?
A. We select host families based on the following criteria:

For Vancouver homestay arrangements, the homestay coordinators at Canada Journal personally visit and inspect the homes, including private rooms, and conduct interviews with host families.

Q. What are the homestay locations?
A. Due to the rising cost of living across Canada, host families do not reside near the school (downtown). Therefore, we arrange homestays in areas within a maximum of 1 hour and 15 minutes of travel time from downtown.

Q. What if I have a problem with my host family?
A. Canada Journal provides a service that allows you to consult with local support staff if you have any issues during your homestay.

After verifying facts from both you and the host family, we will request the host family to make improvements if necessary. In the event we determine that the host family is significantly at fault and unable to improve, we will arrange a new host family for you at no additional charge.

Q. How is my host family chosen?
A. We will arrange your homestay according to the information provided on your application form, including any allergies you have, and whether you are open to living with children or pets.

We will take allergies into full consideration when making arrangements. For other preferences, we will accommodate your requests as much as possible, but we cannot guarantee arrangements exactly as requested.

We do not accept requests related to nationality, as Canada is an immigrant country where such requests would be considered discriminatory.
